J-D's practice consists of civil litigation representing companies and individuals at trial and on appeal. J-D has obtained extensive experience in first party property claims and third party liability claims. J-D also has represented clients in construction defect claims, premise liability claims, wrongful death claims, and complex subrogation claims.
Recently, J-D assisted in representing a large national insurance company in a breach of contract and bad faith lawsuit seeking to recover damages for failure to pay a fire claim. The case was tried and resulted in a take nothing judgment in favor of the insurance company. He also assisted in representing another large excess property insurer in a breach of contract and bad faith case which arose out of a disputed appraisal award. After a three week trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the insurer.
J-D has represented numerous clients in premises liability and wrongful death cases. As part of his premises liability practice, J-D has represented the owner of a hotel, a jazz night club, and a janitorial service company. In connection with his wrongful death cases, J-D has obtained extensive experience in representing his clients in Dram Shop litigation.
J-D received his B.S. in Psychology from Texas A&M University in 1996, and worked as a Community Supervision and Corrections Officer for several years before attending law school. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 2002. While attending South Texas College of Law, J-D served as chairman of the Board of Advocates and was an active member of the Moot Court program. He participated in numerous competitions across the country and was a member of the 2002 J. Braxton Craven, Jr. Memorial Moot Court Championship Team. Upon graduation from law school, J-D joined Eggleston & Briscoe as an associate.
Since 2002, J-D has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Advocacy at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, and has coached teams to National Championships.
