Bill is a 30 year trial lawyer with a broad base of complex litigation experience, emphasizing complex business and insurance litigation. A former prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Special Crimes Division, Bill gained extensive trial experience early in his career successfully prosecuting a variety of criminal and civil cases. These early cases ranged from arson and white collar fraud, to organized criminal activity, civil forfeiture and capital murder.
Since entering private practice, Bill has focused primarily on civil business litigation and has successfully represented a variety of business interests on both sides of the docket. Over the last three decades, he has successfully obtained numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and/or settlements on behalf of numerous clients, including insurance companies, royalty owners, attorneys, investors, real estate developers and the State of Texas. On the defense side, Bill has successfully defended against numerous significant claims, some reaching into the hundreds of millions of dollars. For example, after he completed jury selection recently, Bill was able to obtain an extremely favorable confidential settlement on behalf of a consortium of national and international insurance carriers defending a public utility’s claims of bad faith involving over $150,000,000.00 in alleged business interruption damages.
Bill is a native Houstonian. After first attending the University of Texas, he received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston in 1973 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1977. While at South Texas, he was a member of the South Texas Law Journal, Order of the Lytae, the Order of Barristers, leader of South Texas’ successful State Moot Court team, and elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Immediately after graduating from law school, Bill went to work for the Houston firm of Ross, Griggs & Harrison, and practiced in the areas of architect and engineering malpractice, construction litigation and surety claims. Soon thereafter, he joined the Harris County District Attorney’s Office where he gained the majority of his initial trial experience.
In 1982, Bill resumed the private practice of law with the firm of Briscoe, Powell and Taylor and within a year, became a partner in the firm. In 1984, he joined with Tom Taylor to form Taylor & Eggleston, a trial firm specializing in complex business and insurance litigation.
