Bill Eggleston is a trial lawyer with 30 years of courtroom experience, emphasizing complex business and insurance litigation. A former prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Special Crimes Division, Bill gained extensive trial experience early in his career successfully prosecuting a variety of criminal and civil cases. These early cases ranged from arson and white collar fraud, to organized criminal activity, civil forfeiture, and capital murder.
In 1982, Bill returned to private practice with the firm of Briscoe, Powell and Taylor and within a year, became a partner. In 1984, he joined with Tom Taylor to form Taylor & Eggleston which changed its name to Eggleston & Briscoe in 1999.
Bill’s practice is focused on business and insurance litigation where he has successfully represented a variety of interests on both sides of the docket. Over the last three decades on the plaintiff’s side, he has obtained numerous multi-million dollar jury verdicts and equally favorable settlements on behalf of a variety of sophisticated clients, including insurance companies, royalty owners, attorneys, investors, real estate developers, and the State of Texas. On the defense side, Bill has successfully defended numerous claims of similar significance, some reaching into the hundreds of millions of dollars. By way of example, Bill recently obtained an extremely favorable settlement for a consortium of national and international insurance carriers who he defended against a public utility’s claim of bad faith involving over $150 million in alleged business interruption damages.
Bill is a native Houstonian. After first attending the University of Texas, he received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston in 1973 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1977. While at South Texas, he was a member of the South Texas Law Journal, Order of the Lytae, the Order of Barristers, leader of his school’s successful State Moot Court team, and elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
